Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu has reaffirmed the importance of agriculture as the backbone of the state’s rural economy, calling on officials to strengthen their commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural development. Speaking during a review meeting of the Agriculture Department at Krishi Bhavan, the minister emphasized accountability, administrative efficiency and result-oriented governance to improve service delivery across the state.
The meeting reviewed the progress of major agricultural programmes, district-level performance, institutional challenges and administrative reforms. Particular attention was given to the functioning of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), with representatives highlighting several operational and administrative issues. Wangsu assured them that the government is working towards resolving these concerns while urging continued dedication to supporting farmers.
The future role of the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) in Pasighat was also discussed. The government announced plans to safeguard institutional land and strengthen the institute’s contribution to agricultural extension services. Officials further reviewed the Krishi-Himveer Mission and called for greater participation from farmers, self-help groups and farmer-producer organisations.
A major focus of the meeting was the adoption of digital agriculture. Wangsu highlighted the significance of the AgriStack initiative, which includes farmer identification, crop surveys and digital farm mapping. He noted that pilot mapping has already been completed in six districts and will be expanded statewide over the coming months.
During the event, the minister also launched the Atmanirbhar Yojana Service Delivery Portal and a new digital agriculture initiative aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and accessibility of government support schemes. The reforms are expected to strengthen agricultural governance, enhance farmer outreach and support the long-term growth of the sector in Arunachal Pradesh.
