Assam Rifles, Local Youth Ride to Commemorate Braveheart Hangpan Dada’s Sacrifice

The 10th Balidan Diwas of Ashok Chakra awardee Havildar Hangpan Dada, the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a solemn yet spirited bike rally in Arunachal Pradesh on May 25. The rally commenced from the Deomali Helipad and concluded at the braveheart’s memorial site in Borduria, his native village.

The event drew active participation from around 70 riders, including Assam Rifles personnel, local youth, and civilian volunteers. Riding through the scenic terrain, the participants carried messages promoting national integration, peace, and the timeless sacrifices made by the armed forces in safeguarding the nation.

Havildar Hangpan Dada of the Assam Regiment was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra—India’s highest peacetime military decoration—for his exceptional gallantry during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016. The rally was designed not only to honour his supreme sacrifice but also to instil a sense of patriotism and unity among the local populace.

The event concluded at the memorial site with the laying of floral wreaths and a collective homage to the late soldier. Senior officials emphasized that the initiative aims to preserve the rich legacy and ideals of Hangpan Dada, serving as a beacon of inspiration and selfless service for the younger generations of the northeast and the entire country.
