The Hindi Fortnight 2026 celebrations began at the North-East Frontier Headquarters of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Monday, with a focus on promoting the use of Hindi in official work and strengthening the implementation of the Government’s Official Language Policy. The fortnight-long programme was inaugurated under the leadership of Amitabh Gupta, Inspector General, North-East Frontier, ITBP, in the presence of senior officers and Himveers. Addressing the gathering, DIG (P&A) Achal Sharma said the Official Language Policy is based on motivation, encouragement, linguistic harmony and training. He noted that ITBP personnel come from different parts of the country and emphasised the importance of respecting all mother tongues while encouraging the use of Hindi for official communication. Sharma said programmes such as the Hindi Fortnight help create a positive environment for the voluntary use of Hindi in day-to-day official work and urged personnel to participate actively. The Hindi Fortnight is being observed from September 14 to 29 and will feature seven competitions, Hindi workshops, seminars and other activities aimed at encouraging greater use of the language. Personnel have been encouraged to participate in the programmes and incorporate Hindi more extensively into their routine official communication. The celebrations are intended to promote linguistic harmony within the force while encouraging the effective and voluntary implementation of the Official Language Policy among ITBP personnel.
