A floodlit friendly cricket match at Jalan Outdoor Stadium turned into a one-day international style thriller on Sunday night, as Dibrugarh District Sports Association XI held their nerve to beat Dibrugarh Media XI by just 2 runs.
Organized under the management of BCCI and supervision of BCIA, the match saw Dibrugarh DSA XI take on the DSA Journalist XI, with both sides producing a contest full of excitement, tension, and late drama.
Batting first, the veteran-heavy DSA XI posted 72 runs for the loss of 12 wickets in their allotted overs. The Media XI responded with a spirited chase, keeping the target of 73 within reach until the very last ball.
The game went down to the wire. Media XI needed 3 runs off the final delivery to seal victory. But a sharp piece of fielding produced a run-out on the last ball, leaving the journalists stranded on 70 for 9. DSA XI clinched the win by the narrowest of margins — 2 runs.
Veteran Chitraraj Gowala of Dibrugarh DSA was named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round effort that proved decisive in a low-scoring thriller.
The match was played in a professional atmosphere under floodlights, with momentum swinging every over. While the DSA XI relied on experience, the Media XI impressed with collective energy and fight, pushing the game to the final moment.
A presentation ceremony followed the match. Dibrugarh DSA President Niranjan Saikia, General Secretary Kamakhya Saikia, and Executive President Manasjyoti Das attended, along with other officials. Representing the media fraternity were senior journalists Bishwajit Das, Rahul Buragohain, and Debajit Bhuyan.
Organizers said the friendly was aimed at strengthening ties between the District Sports Association and the local media community, and the close finish ensured it will be remembered.
