A special meeting of the elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has been convened on May 22 to consider a no-confidence motion against DMC chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi. According to a DIPR report, the meeting was called following a notice issued by Dimapur deputy commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang after 12 of the 23 elected members submitted their intention to move the motion.
The special meeting is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. at the office of the Dimapur Municipal Council. All elected members, excluding ex-officio and nominated members, have been directed to attend the session. Officials said the notice, submitted by two elected members and received by the deputy commissioner on May 11, was examined and found to be in conformity with the procedural and substantive provisions under Chapter-II, Section 15 (1) and (2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
The report stated that the motion met the statutory requirement of support from the mandated number of elected members. Following scrutiny and verification, the deputy commissioner expressed satisfaction that the motion was procedurally valid and warranted the convening of a special meeting for further consideration.
