The Assam Rifles organised a Pipe Band display at Kangla West Gate in Imphal on Tuesday as part of the celebrations for the 80th Independence Day, attracting more than 1,050 spectators.
A 24-member Pipe Band performed 15 patriotic and popular compositions during the programme, including “Vande Mataram”, “Ye Watan” and “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja”. The performance began and ended with “Vande Mataram”.
The event was attended by Manipur Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh, Director General of Police Mukesh Singh and other dignitaries, including the Deputy Inspector General of the Assam Rifles’ Kangla Warriors.
Students from schools and colleges, accompanied by their parents, were among those present. Local residents, police personnel, businessmen, traders from Ima Market and other members of the community also attended the programme.
The performance received a positive response from the audience, with spectators applauding the band’s coordinated movements, musical presentation and precision. Children waved the Tricolour in time with the patriotic songs as the band performed.
As darkness fell, several spectators switched on the flashlights on their mobile phones, creating a bright display around the venue and adding to the atmosphere of the evening programme.
The Assam Rifles said the event was organised to promote patriotism, national pride and unity among the people of Manipur. It also described the programme as part of its community engagement efforts aimed at strengthening its relationship with local residents through shared celebrations.
The force said such programmes provide an opportunity for communities to come together and celebrate the values of freedom, unity and national pride ahead of Independence Day.
The event at Kangla West Gate was part of the activities being organised in the run-up to August 15, marking the country’s 80th Independence Day.
