In an initiative aimed at celebrating and empowering women voters, ‘sanitary pads’ were distributed as return gifts to all women who cast their votes in exclusively women-managed polling stations on Friday. Approximately 600 women voters benefited from this pioneering effort. The sanitary pads were elegantly packaged, accompanied by a printed note that read, “Thank you for your vote. Your vote is the gateway to women empowerment.” This thoughtful gesture was warmly received by the voters, underscoring the significance of recognizing and appreciating women’s participation in the electoral process.
This innovative initiative was spearheaded by the District Election Office (DEO), Yupia, with special credit to RO 13- Itanagar (ST) Assembly constituency, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, for her dedicated efforts in making it a reality.
The polling day for the simultaneous elections in 2024, under the supervision of DEO Papumpare, transpired peacefully without any untoward incidents. The day witnessed enthusiastic participation from first-time voters, women and senior citizens.
