The Solung Festival was celebrated with traditional fervour at N R Lotong Gi, Notko, Jaipur, Namsai, showcasing the rich cultural heritage, customs and artistic traditions of the Adi community. The celebration featured colourful traditional performances that gave the younger generation an opportunity to connect with and appreciate their ancestral traditions. A key highlight was the unveiling of a Hindi audio album by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Chowna Mein, aimed at promoting and preserving the Adi community’s music, heritage and artistic expressions. Addressing the gathering, Dr Mein stressed the need to safeguard Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous languages, music and traditional practices amid changing times. He urged the community to document traditional knowledge, art and music and encouraged young people to take an active role in preserving their cultural identity. He emphasised that protecting indigenous heritage is a collective responsibility requiring the participation of both communities and the younger generation. Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge highlighted Solung’s role in bringing communities together and strengthening social bonds, while Dambuk MLA Punyo Apun called for greater youth participation in preserving indigenous customs and knowledge. Local MLA Zingnu Namchoom also stressed collective efforts to ensure that the Adi community’s age-old traditions and values are passed on to future generations. Namsai Zilla Parishad Chairperson Chow Sujana Namchoom, senior district officials, public representatives and members of the Adi community attended the celebration.
