The ST Bachao Andolan Committee has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Principal Secretary Kaling Tayeng over issues related to Inner Line Permit (ILP) digitalisation and protection of Scheduled Tribe rights in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the committee, the state government has failed to fulfil earlier demands regarding the digitalisation of the ILP system and safeguards for indigenous tribal communities of the state.
As part of its protest programme, the committee called for a 36-hour bandh beginning May 14, 2026, and warned that democratic agitations would be intensified if its demands were not addressed.
The bandh call affected normal activities in Itanagar, where the situation was being closely monitored by authorities.
Meanwhile, the district administration declared the proposed bandh illegal and appealed to the public to maintain peace and normalcy.
