Tawang Hosts Workshop to Boost Rural Entrepreneurship and Village Industries

A Gramin Udyog and Entrepreneurship Development Workshop was organised in Tawang district on Monday by the Arunachal Pradesh Khadi & Village Industries Board (APKVIB), bringing together artisans, farmers, SHG members, unemployed youths, and local entrepreneurs to promote rural enterprise and self-employment opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Tsering Lhamu highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in strengthening the rural economy and urged young people to become job creators. She encouraged participation in various support schemes offered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), NERAMAC, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), along with state agencies.

Maling Gombu, Chairman of APKVIB, stressed the need to connect rural producers with government programmes and promote value addition, branding, and sustainable use of local resources. He also informed participants about registration benefits with APKVIB for technical guidance, training, and marketing support.

Resource persons from MSME, NERAMAC, DoNER, and APKVIB shared insights on the potential of village industries in Tawang, including handicrafts, handloom, Monpa handmade paper, food processing, beekeeping, and agro-based enterprises. MSME Itanagar Director (i/c) Dr Satish Kumar outlined key MSME schemes, while NERAMAC BDO Md Abdul Rakib discussed market linkages and buyback arrangements.

The interactive session saw participants raising concerns on marketing and technical support for crops like amla, lemongrass, and seabuckthorn, seeking stronger handholding to develop viable rural enterprises. APKVIB Development Officer Ralong Singhi assured continued support for sustainable rural livelihood promotion.
