Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein inaugurated the Mini Football Stadium at Chongkham in Namsai district on Tuesday.
Constructed under funding from North East Council (NEC) and executed by the Rural Works Department (RWD), the stadium is equipped with an artificial turf and has a seating capacity of 2,025 spectators, making it suitable for hosting high-level football competitions.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Chongkham, K. Tikhak, who welcomed the dignitaries, Heads of Departments (HoDs), PRI members and gathered public.
He urged the youth to make optimum use of the modern sports infrastructure for their overall development.
During the programme, distinguished guests were felicitated, while the Executive Engineer, RWD, presented an overview of the project, highlighting its timeline of execution and key features.
Addressing the gathering, MLA of Namsai, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, congratulated the people of Chongkham on the inauguration of the international-standard sporting facility.
Paying tribute to late Indrajit Namchoom, whom he described as a pioneering figure of football in Arunachal Pradesh, he encouraged young sportspersons to emulate his dedication and commitment.
He also stressed the need for equal opportunities for girls in sports and urged the youth to remain away from drugs while making constructive use of the stadium.
In his address to the people of Chongkham and Namsai district as a whole, the Deputy Chief Minister described the stadium as a landmark addition to the district’s sports infrastructure and expressed confidence that it would promote sporting excellence as well as boost tourism in the region.
He also highlighted the importance of Spring Water Rejuvenation Programme for a sustainable tourism and underscored the need for scientific irrigation planning to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
Emphasising the importance of planned and systematic development, Mein called for masterplan-based growth across districts.
He urged the youth to actively participate in sports, make the best use of the stadium and stay away from drug abuse, while appealing to the community to collectively nurture a healthy and vibrant sporting culture.
