Arunachal Pradesh enrolls journalists under government healthcare scheme

Arunachal Pradesh has officially enrolled journalists under the Chief Minister Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY), a state government healthcare scheme aimed at providing medical benefits. The enrollment was facilitated at an event held in Itanagar on January 29, 2025. The initiative follows a notification issued last year, on February 6, which made all journalists registered with the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) eligible for the benefits under CMAAY. Addressing the gathering, Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge emphasized the crucial role the media plays in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people. “Journalists are the voice of the people. Their responsibility extends beyond reporting.

They are also key agents in spreading awareness about welfare schemes meant to improve lives,” Wahge said. He also encouraged journalists to actively share information about government schemes, ensuring that the benefits reach those who need them most. The mass enrollment enables both Arunachal Pradesh State Tribe (APST) and non-APST journalists who are registered with APUWJ to avail themselves of health benefits under the scheme. This move acknowledges the invaluable contribution of journalists to society and aims to provide them with much-needed health security.

APC President Dodum Yangfo welcomed the inclusion, calling it a significant step towards addressing the occupational risks faced by media professionals. “This initiative acknowledges the challenges journalists face daily, often working in difficult conditions without proper health security,” Yangfo said. APUWJ President Amar Sangno hailed the move as a historic milestone, marking a new chapter in the recognition and welfare of journalists in the state.
