A four-member delegation from Arunachal Pradesh, led by assembly speaker Tesam Pongte, is attending the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in South Africa, officials said on Tuesday.
The conference, hosted by the Parliament of South Africa and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) South Africa Branch, began on Monday in Cape Town.
The state delegation comprises Pongte, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin and Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu.
Nyigyor said in a social media post that the delegation attended the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
“Altogether 56 Commonwealth countries are attending the CPA Conference and election at Cape Town, which will conclude on September 19,” he said.
The 69th CPC has brought together speakers, lawmakers and parliamentary officials from 56 Commonwealth countries, representing more than 180 national, state, provincial and territorial legislatures.
The participation of the Arunachal Pradesh delegation provides an opportunity for the state’s legislators to engage in parliamentary diplomacy, capacity building and knowledge-sharing with lawmakers from across the Commonwealth, officials said.
