A two-day workshop-cum-training programme on “Digital Archiving, Linguistic Tools and AI Applications in Linguistic and Cultural Research” concluded at the RIWATCH Centre in Khinjili, Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, on Saturday. The programme was jointly organised by the Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH), the Centre for Development of Indigenous Knowledge (CoDIN), Delhi, and the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Research scholars representing 16 tribes from three universities of Arunachal Pradesh — Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh; Arunachal Pradesh University, Pasighat; and Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai — participated in the training. The workshop focused on audiovisual documentation of languages and cultural practices, linguistic fieldwork, language-data collection, digital archiving and data management, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in language documentation and research. Participants also received hands-on training in emerging digital and research tools. Resource persons included Dr M. S. Awan, Dr Kombong Darang, Dr R. Karthick Narayanan and Dr Ritesh Kumar. The programme forms part of RIWATCH’s continuing efforts to document, preserve and transmit the linguistic and cultural knowledge of indigenous communities by combining traditional knowledge with modern technologies.
