CM Outlines Vision for Arunachal’s Creative Economy

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has hailed Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) as a cornerstone of Arunachal Pradesh’s progress, emphasizing its pivotal role in shaping the state’s human resources since its inception in 1984. Addressing the 9th edition of ‘Arunachal Panorama’ on Tuesday, the Chief Minister noted that the university’s alumni have become leaders across governance, technology, and public service, creating a legacy that continues to drive the state’s growth.

The flagship cultural festival, held at the Orchid Lake Resort in Umiam, served as a vibrant showcase of the state’s 26 major tribes and numerous sub-tribes. Khandu commended RGU for sustaining the event as a meaningful tradition that fosters unity and allows the younger generation to connect with their diverse cultural roots. He described the festival as a unique platform where traditional dances and creative fusions help present Arunachal’s vast heritage in a cohesive manner.

Beyond cultural preservation, the Chief Minister outlined a forward-looking vision for the state’s youth. He stressed that modern education must transcend academic learning to include technological adaptability, sports, and co-curricular activities. Specifically, he urged students to embrace artificial intelligence and machine learning judiciously, warning against overdependence that could stifle critical thinking. To support this transition, he highlighted the ‘Mission Shikshit Arunachal’ and the implementation of the National Education Policy, focusing on skill development and foundational literacy.

Empowering the next generation of “job creators” remains a top priority for the state. Khandu discussed initiatives like the Arunachal Pradesh Innovation and Investment Park and announced the establishment of a ‘Creative Economy Cell’ under the Chief Minister’s Office to nurture talent in art, music, and design. He also shared plans to enhance youth participation in the armed forces through structured training and scholarships.

In a major move to expand educational access, the Chief Minister announced that the state Cabinet has approved a satellite campus of RGU in Kambang. He further assured student representatives that the government remains committed to upgrading university infrastructure, including roads, lighting, and water supply. By bridging academic knowledge with grassroots realities, Khandu expressed confidence that RGU will continue to be an engine of social and economic transformation for Arunachal Pradesh.
